The new Mills College Graduate School of Business opened to acclaim in the fall of 2009. The modern glass, concrete, steel and stone building sits in sharp contrast to the Spanish colonial revival style of adjacent buildings. A large, red “floating” classroom hangs over the main lobby to indicate that learning is on display, and that Mills is moving forward.
CRI worked closely with both the building architect, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, and the Mills Facility Manager on two distinctive projects. The architectural scope included the installation of curved and tiered Nienkamper classroom tables. A challenging field measure was compounded by dimensioning on an arc and locating cores that would not interfere with radiant tubing. The architect also specified several classic pieces, such as bright red Eames lounge chairs for the Dean’s private office.
The Facility Manager was charged with more practical matters. Nevins training tables complemented the Nienkamper tables at a utilitarian price point. Aeron chairs were specified judiciously. And beautiful ICF Campus side chairs, used throughout, bridged both projects. |
