FROM WHERE I SIT

Best of Neocon 2008

In case you were unable to attend Neocon this year or if you did attend Neocon and had such a great time at David Meckley’s party at Sidetracks (everybody does)  that you never recovered enough to look at new product, Team CRI decided to give you our picks of what we thought was the Best of Neocon.

These choices are purely subjective and in no particular order of preference. Click on the photos for more information about these products.

Herman Miller Teneo

Herman Miller:  Teneo. In addition to the fact that it won the top Best of Competition of all product shown at Neocon, this is a terribly cool storage line. Beautifully detailed with a definite “look” all it's own. It also has the sexiest pull that we have seen in quite a while.

Halcon Parlay

Halcon: Parlay Sequence. So this year David Meckley had two things to celebrate: his birthday and the introduction of this new case goods line. Well, first it looks terrific. As important, it looks like something that was designed by someone who actually knows how people work in their office and what they need. Lots of intelligently thought-out options for storage and organization.

Bernhardt Ascent Stool

Bernhardt: Ascent bar stool. Clean lines don't even start to describe this sleek beauty. Simple is chic. Bravo to designer Jonathan Rowell on this one.

Bernhardt Loft

Bernhardt:  Loft wood lounge chair. We stopped in our tracks when we saw this striking piece that has the look of being hand carved. Then the deal was sealed when the designer, a young student named Shelly Shelly ( hands down, best name of a new designer at Neocon )  proudly came up and introduced herself, just beaming with pride. As she should.

Bernhardt Tribute

Bernhardt:  Tribute swivel lounge chair. It’s not enough that designer Suzanne Trocme’ did a lovely, softer-lined variation on the classic boxy lounge chair. She then set it on a hidden swivel base with a memory to return to its original position after a person gets up from it. Clever.

HBF Linea

HBF: Linea Casegoods. Mario Ruiz, based in Barcelona, has the European sensibility that makes this line so hot. We particularly liked the combination of veneer elements and painted elements working together

HBF C Collection

HBF: C Collection by Yves Behar. Is there any design challenge that Mr. Behar won’t take up? The organic sensuality of  this line makes you understand why it was a Silver Award winner this year.

Human Scale Paramount

Humanscale: Paramount monitor arm. Whether you need to mount 2 monitor screens or 8, this monitor arm system will give you the capacity to display all on one arm. NASA meets James Bond.

Geiger First Sight

Geiger: If you liked Geiger’s lounge pieces in the past, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Mark Goetz and Eric Chan have created a new, very wide range of pieces that go way beyond what Geiger has offered in the past. We all know what Geiger can do with wood but the new metal framed lounge pieces are stunning.

Decca Table

Decca: The big news from Decca is the M.T.O. program. That means Made To Order and they ain’t kiddin’. If you can design it, they can make it. And with a very wide range of veneer options. We love what Brian Graham (he’s everywhere these days) did in designing a round conference table with a cut-out center and angular bronze legs. Tasty.

And what did YOU see at Neocon that tickled your fancy, in or out of The Mart? Send me an email and let me know!
